Secrets to Getting Good Grades
1. Set Priorities: Study is business and business comes before recreation.
2. Study Anywhere or Everywhere: Study times and places are matters of personal preference. The secret is consistency. Budget a time every day and stick to your budget. Losing sleep to study is not a good idea. Also, consistent study, rather than waiting and cramming is the answer for most students.
3. Get Organized: Keep study materials together. Don't waste time searching for materials that should have been at your finger tips.
4. Learn How To Read: The secret of good reading is to be an active reader. And wehn you read, keep your mind on the words, not on what you did today or plan to do tomorrow.
5. Schedule Your Time: A major study effort should be undertaken int he same manner you would use in eating a huge steak - one bite at a time. Undertake your study projects a "bite" at a time - then it doesn't seem so overwhelming.
6. Take Good Notes: Teachers test more on what they emphasize. Tape lectures if possible and listen to the tapes over and over again. Keep notes or tapes organized and review them immediately after class, if possible.
7. Clean Up Your Act: Nice, neat, attractive and well-organized papers will get hgiher grades, regardless of quality of content. Good food won't taste good if it is served on a messy plate!
8. Speak Up: If you don't understand, speak up and ask intelligent, thought-provoking questions. If you are reluctant to ask questions, just ask the teacher to explain what you didn't understand again.
9. Study Together: Students can help each other by discussing their independent ideas and solutions. Studying alone can be a major waste of time.
10. Test Yourself: students who rationalize on what is important enough to be on an examination and then formulate questions and test themselves, usually make much better grades.
11. Do More Than You're Asked: A major part of learning is practicing. If the teacher asks you to work ten problems, work twenty problems. The practice will do you much good.
